The year 2020, where to begin? Here on the farm during this pandemic, we replanted a l0t of
When my husband and I purchased our home and ten acres, we knew we somehow wanted to farm the land. After some extensive research, we came across a few interesting articles about herbs , but one stood out above all the others; Lavender! It has so many properties and benefits that it intrigued me the most! However, lavender isn't easy to grow here in the Midwest, but then not much stops me when I put my mind to something!
So, first we had to test our soil to see what our PH levels were on the farm. We then bought a small tractor, and with some amending of the soil our journey began.
We started making our dream (well, my dream which later became his dream) come to life!
So in March 2017, we planted two different kinds of Lavender: Grosso and Phenomenal. We have approximately 500+ plants.
In May 2018, we realized winter had taken a toll on our field of lavender. In June of 2018, we replanted what we lost and also started some culinary Lavender (Munstead).
What Lavender we had, we did very well on as far as the crop was concerned. We then started making some great quality lavender products .
We ventured into the Artisan Craft Shows throughout the Tri-State, in the fall of 2018.
We also have been fortunate enough to have our products featured in a wonderful local shop:
Capers in New Harmony, Indiana
This brings us to June 2019, where we had our first successful open house on the farm! We also opened our farm to group tours in June 2019 with a great turn out! And our craft and artisan shows continue to be a success thanks to our great support group of lavender lovers.
2020! The pandemic hit and turned our world upside down. It also rained alot ,and with that came replanting lavender and we now grow 6 different varieties of lavender. Most of our craft and artisan shows were cancelled due to the pandemic, and the farm was closed to the public for everyone's safety. We look forward to 2021 with a lot of optimisim for everyone!
2021! The new Chandelier Barn Market in Montgomery, IN. has offered us the opportunity to showcase some our products in their new store which should be opening in February 2021, take some time to go and enjoy their beautiful place and check out our handmade lavender products made by my husband and I here on our farm in New Harmony, Indiana
2022 & 2023!! We sold our farm and bought a new, larger farm, closer to New Harmony! We have started the lavender fields over in the spring of 2023 with more planting in spring 2024! We plan on having some events in the spring of 2024. We will post it on here, so stay tuned!!
Caper's still carries our products in New Harmony, In. and Higginson's in Carmi, Illinois also carries our products.
2024 We are planting more lavender and planning private tours and u-cuts.
